Your Journey to RuckList

Unpacking the Problem

You’ve been there.

Miles in, you reach for something that isn’t there. Or you’re hauling a pack that weighs twice what it should because you threw everything in, just in case. Maybe you’re three hours from the trailhead, realizing the one thing you forgot is the one thing you actually needed.

The feeling isn’t just frustration–it’s a trip derailed. Days of planning, money spent, time carved out of a busy life–and it unravels because of something that was sitting on your garage shelf.

It’s not that you don’t care. You care more than most. You did the research. You asked the questions. You dug into the details. But somehow you still end up surrounded by gear piles, half-finished checklists, and the nagging feeling that you’re either overpacked or one item short.

Overpacked and underprepared at the same time. It shouldn’t be possible. And yet, here we are.

It’s time to cut through the clutter and make sure the right gear ends up in your pack–every time, for every adventure.

That’s exactly what RuckList was built to do.

Stop Packing by Memory. Start Packing by Design.

Memory is a terrible packing system. It’s how you end up at the put-in without your dry bags, or two days into elk camp, realizing your sleep system is rated for 20 degrees warmer than where you’re sleeping.

RuckList isn’t just another app or a fancier checklist–it's a completely different approach to how you prepare. With Gear Optimization Technology, RuckList taps into the real, hard-won experience of the outdoor community–people who’ve made the mistakes, dialed in their kits, and know what actually matters in the field.

Build your Gear Garage. Catalog what you own. Then build reusable packing lists by trip type, season, and by adventure–so you’re never relying on memory. Heading into elk camp? Pull that list. Weekend fishing trip. Different list. Late-season backpack? There’s a list for that too, and it already knows what you own.

The result isn’t just better packing. It’s less stress, less wasted money, and more time doing the thing you actually showed up for.

Forgetting Gear Sucks. RuckList Remembers.

Letter From the Founder

RuckList was born out of my own journey into the wild. I didn’t grow up taking big adventures in the woods, but my youth had me spending entire summers fishing, biking, and exploring the river bottoms. I’ve always loved being outdoors, but I was limited by my lack of guidance.

In 2012, after I retired from a 17-year career dedicated to professional discuss throwing, I sought to fill the void of athletics, and began hunting. Jay, one of the founders of RuckList and a dear friend, was my first mentor in true woodsman-ship. I didn’t know how little I knew and my life has never been the same. As I explored the hills with Jay and other friends, I realized something was missing; the knowledge and tools to help others navigate the wilderness safely and confidently.

Driven by a deep desire to help others connect with their adventurous spirit, I created RuckList. A tool to help everyone discover, explore, and connect with the outdoors. Whether it’s the pull of a distant mountain, a winding river, or the crest of a dirt road just beyond the horizon, there’s something in all of us that longs to go further. If we can play a part in your journey, helping you discover the quiet, the adventure, and the connection that comes from the outdoors, then we’ve done our job.

We will always strive to share the knowledge and wisdom of the incredible community we’re building. RuckList is about all of us, together, learning, sharing, and supporting one another as we find that wild part of ourselves out there.
